AI for Your CV: Write, Design, Tailor and Practise the Interview

AI can turn a messy list of jobs and projects into a clean resume, tailor it to each job ad, draft a cover letter and play the interviewer. But it does not know you: every job, date and skill must come from you, and certificates or references are never something AI makes up. This guide shows what works for free, what is worth paying for, and ready prompts in English and Hebrew.

01AI is a fast career coach, not someone who invents your past

Think of AI as a friend who works in HR and writes well. You tell them what you did on a project, and they turn it into a sharp line with a verb and a result. But ask them to "make me fit the job" and they may add skills you do not have. Interviewers ask about exactly those lines, and that is where it shows.

02What a good process looks like

  3. 3TailorAI selects and rewrites only from the master file

06How to start, step by step

  1. 1

    Write a master file

A full list of jobs, dates, projects, numbers (scope, budget, team size), software and certificates. No design, just facts.

  2. 2

    Remove sensitive details

Before pasting into a chat: no ID number, full address, date of birth or confidential client names. City, phone and email are enough.

  3. 3

    Paste the job ad

Ask for the requirements, keywords and a match against your master file, gaps included.

  4. 4

    Ask for a tailored version

One or two pages, only from the master file, with missing information marked for checking. More on good requests: Talking to AI.

  5. 5

    Check every line

Every date, degree, number and software name. If something is wrong, delete it, even if it sounds good.

  6. 6

    Design and save

Move it into a Word or Canva template, check Hebrew right-to-left if relevant, and save as PDF and as Word.

  7. 7

    Practise the interview

Open voice mode, give it the ad and your resume, and ask it to interview you.

07Ready prompts to copy

English

Resume from a master file

"Here is my master file. Write a one-page resume for a [job title] role. Each experience line: what I did and what came of it, with the numbers from the file. Use only the information I gave: no skills, degrees, certificates or experience that are not in it. Mark [CHECK] wherever information is missing."

English

Match to the job ad

"Here are the job ad and my resume. Build a table with three columns: requirement, do I have it (yes / partly / no), and where it appears in my resume. Then suggest a rewrite of the experience section using only what is in my resume, without inventing anything."

English

Cover letter

"Write a short cover letter, up to 150 words, for this job. Professional and warm, with no generic lines like 'I am a hard-working team player'. Mention two real projects from my master file that match the requirements."

Hebrew

Hebrew CV

"Turn my English resume into a one-page Hebrew CV in natural Israeli Hebrew, right-to-left. Keep software and product names in English. Do not invent anything; mark gaps as [לבדיקה]."

English

LinkedIn headline and About

"Write 3 LinkedIn headline options (under 220 characters) and a 4-paragraph About section from my master file. First person, plain words, no buzzwords."

Voice

Mock interview

"You are interviewing me for this job. Ask one question at a time, including technical questions about my projects and one about a mistake or failure. After each answer give short feedback: what was good and what to improve. At the end, sum up three strengths and three things to work on."

08Example: a construction technician applying to a contractor

Construction technician with 6 years on residential sitesasks
Here is my master file and an ad for a site supervisor job. Tailor my CV to the ad, one page in Hebrew. Put projects with quality control and subcontractor management first, do not add certificates I do not have, and mark [CHECK] where information is missing.
gets
A one-page CV with three achievement lines with numbers (housing units, team size), a match table showing he lacks one certificate the ad requires, and two [CHECK] marks on dates. He does not add the certificate; he says in the cover letter that he is working on it.
ToolClaude Free, with a Word file created from the chat

09Example: a design engineer before an English interview

Civil engineer before an interview at an international firmasks
(in voice mode) Interview me in English for this structural engineer role. Ask one question at a time, include two technical questions about my projects and one about a mistake I made. After each answer, give me short feedback on clarity and length.
gets
Twenty minutes of spoken practice, feedback on answers that ran too long, and a list of three answers to strengthen before the real interview.
ToolChatGPT Voice or Claude voice mode on the phone

10Do and don't

Do

  • Give AI only true facts and numbers you can explain in an interview
  • Ask it to mark what is missing instead of guessing
  • Tailor each resume to the ad instead of sending one file to everyone
  • Check Hebrew right-to-left layout in Word or Docs before sending
  • Ask referees before listing their name and phone; if a former manager wants a draft reference, they edit and sign it themselves

Don't

  • Invent experience, degrees or software you have not mastered
  • Use AI to create or "fix" a certificate, diploma, reference letter, payslip or employment confirmation. That is forgery, and employers check
  • Paste your ID number, full address or an employer's confidential data
  • Send AI text without reading it, with phrases like "dynamic expert"
  • Use an AI-generated face or someone else's photo as your profile photo

11ATS, recruiters and Hebrew right-to-left

Many companies and recruitment agencies screen resumes in an ATS before a person reads them. Canva recommends clear headings such as "Work Experience" and "Skills" and avoiding text boxes, tables and images, and Microsoft labels some Word templates ATS-friendly. Columns and icons may be read in the wrong order.

Hebrew adds one more issue: dates, phone numbers and English names sometimes flip. Open the final file in Word or Google Docs, check every paragraph is right-to-left, and save both PDF and Word, because some systems ask for Word.

12FAQ

What is the best AI for resume writing?

ChatGPT and Claude are the easiest for writing and tailoring to a job ad, in English and Hebrew. Word and Canva are better for the final design. The biggest difference is not the tool but your master file: complete, accurate input gives a good resume.

Can I write a resume with AI for free?

Yes. All the big chats write and tailor resumes on their free plans, and Word and Canva templates are free. Paying is mainly worth it for AI inside Word, a lot of voice practice or dozens of applications a week.

How do I use ChatGPT for my job search?

Paste each job ad and your master file, ask for a match table and a tailored resume, then a cover letter, and finish with a mock interview in Voice. Check every fact before you send anything.

Can recruiters tell a CV was written with AI?

What stands out is generic, flowery text with no numbers or details. If every line is based on a real project of yours and written plainly, it is simply a good resume. And anything you invented will come out in the interview.

What should I not paste into the chat?

Your ID number, full address, date of birth and employers' confidential information. You can also turn off training on your chats: in ChatGPT it is Improve the model for everyone, in Claude it is Help Improve our AI models (Settings, Privacy). Or use a ChatGPT Temporary Chat or a Claude incognito chat.

Can I practise an interview in Hebrew by voice?

You can try: in ChatGPT and Claude you choose the voice language in settings. The official help pages list no languages and do not mention Hebrew, so if recognition is poor, practise in English or in writing.
