Free AI in 2026: the best free AI tools, their real limits, and what works in Hebrew and without sign-up
Almost every big AI tool now has a free version, and a few even work without an account. But free always comes with a catch: a usage cap, fewer features, ads, or your data. Here are the best free AI tools in October 2026, sorted by need, with the real limit of each, what you need to get started and how each one handles Hebrew.
01What "free AI" actually means
There are three kinds of free. The first and most common is a free tier with a cap, like ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Copilot. You work for free until the cap runs out, then you wait or upgrade.
The second is no sign-up use. A few tools let you ask without an account, usually with less: no history, no files and no images. The third is local AI that runs on your own computer, like Ollama and LM Studio, with no subscription and nothing leaving your machine.
Still deciding which assistant to pick? See our separate guide: Compare and choose. For what each paid plan costs: AI Price Comparison: Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini and Copilot.
02The analogy: the free tasting stand
A free AI tier is like a tasting stand at the supermarket. You can taste a few times, find out if you like it, even take the edge off your hunger. But for a full meal every day, you buy. And outside the store there are fake stands handing out "free samples" just to get your card details. So only taste at the maker's own stand.

04No sign-up? What we checked on official pages
| Tool | Usable without an account? | What you lose or need |

| Gemini | Partly, on some devices | Signed out you generally get text only: no history, no file upload, no images and no Gems. The Android app requires sign-in |
| Microsoft Copilot | In practice no, since late August 2026 | According to a late-August 2026 report confirmed by a Microsoft product manager, copilot.microsoft.com now requires sign-in (Copilot Search answers inside Bing stay open). Sign in free with a Microsoft, Google or Apple account. We found no official help page on this yet |
| Claude | No | Needs a free account at claude.ai |

| DeepL | Not verified | Free plan: 50,000 characters a month and 1 file a month up to 5MB. The page does not say whether an account is required |

06Two routes: a full free kit, or one subscription
The free kit
- Main chat assistant: Gemini or ChatGPT, on a free account
- A second assistant for when the cap runs out: Claude or Copilot
- Gemini Notebook for questions on your standards, catalogues and documents
- DeepL Free for translation, Gamma or ChatGPT for PowerPoint for slides
- Clipchamp for video editing, LM Studio for files that must not go to the cloud
Limit: Caps that run out mid-task, fewer features, and in some tools your chats are used for training by default
One subscription that covers it all
From 4.99 USD a month (Google AI Plus, US price) up to about 20 USD a month (Claude Pro, ChatGPT Plus, Google AI Pro)
- Much higher caps and stronger models
- Deep research without tight limits, and larger files
- AI inside Word, Excel and PowerPoint (for example Microsoft 365 Personal or Claude Pro)
- No ads on ChatGPT Plus and above
- Full price comparison: AI Price Comparison: Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini and Copilot
When paying is worth it: When you use AI every day and keep hitting the cap, or when your time is worth more than 20 dollars a month
07Example: an engineer with questions about a long specification
08Example: a small office makes a client deck for free
09Watch out: fake "free AI" sites and privacy
Official addresses only
chatgpt.com, gemini.google.com, claude.ai, copilot.microsoft.com. A look-alike site promising "unlimited free ChatGPT" is usually not the maker's.
No card for "free"
A real free tier does not need a credit card. A site asking for a card "just to verify" may sign you up for a subscription.
Apps and extensions from the maker only
Download from the official app store and check the developer is OpenAI, Google, Anthropic or Microsoft. A browser extension can read every page you open.
Free is paid with data
On the personal plans of ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude, chats can be used for training unless you turn it off. For Copilot, Microsoft says chats from users in Israel are not used for training. A temporary or incognito chat is not used for training.
Confidential files stay home
Client drawings, quotes and personal data do not go into a free cloud tool. Use a business plan or local AI like LM Studio for that.
Engineering calculations need an engineer
Free or paid, AI can get numbers and units wrong. Every calculation, standard or structural work must be checked by a qualified engineer.
10Cloud AI vs local AI on your computer
Cloud (ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Copilot)
- Smarter and stronger, works from any computer or phone
- Better Hebrew in the big assistants
- Web search, images and files
- A cap on the free tier, and your data goes to the vendor's servers
Local (LM Studio, Ollama)
- Free and unlimited locally
- Documents never leave the computer, works offline
- Needs a strong computer and disk space; slow on a weak one
- Hebrew quality varies by model, test it
11Build a free AI kit in 15 minutes
- 1
Open one or two free accounts
Gemini with your existing Google account, plus ChatGPT or Claude as a backup. Always go through the official address.
- 2
Turn off training on your chats
ChatGPT: Settings, then Data controls. Claude: Settings, then Privacy. Gemini: Keep Activity. Copilot: according to Microsoft, chats from users in Israel are not used for training anyway.
- 3
Set up a notebook for your documents
In Gemini Notebook, upload the specifications, catalogues and guidelines you use most, and ask questions about them.
- 4
Add one tool per need
DeepL for translation, Gamma for slides, Clipchamp for video. Full list of add-ons: The best AI plug-in for each kind of work.
- 5
Test Hebrew on a real task
Give every tool the same short job, such as a client email or a one-page summary, and keep the one that writes most naturally.
- 6
Decide on upgrading after a month
If you hit the cap several times a week, one subscription at about 20 dollars will save you more time than it costs.
12FAQ
What is the best free AI?
There is no single winner. Gemini gives the most features for free, including Deep Research, images and a Hebrew interface. ChatGPT is the easiest for everyday chat and you can start without an account. Claude is strong with documents and files. Best to open two and switch when one hits its cap.
Is there free AI with no sign-up?
Yes, but limited. On ChatGPT you can ask on the website without an account, one conversation at a time and nothing saved. Gemini allows text chat signed out on some devices, without files or images. Perplexity lets you ask without signing in, and the thread is deleted after 14 days. Claude needs a free account, and Copilot has been asking everyone to sign in since late August 2026.
Which free AI is best in Hebrew?
Gemini has a Hebrew interface, and Copilot officially supports Hebrew text. ChatGPT and Claude write Hebrew well in practice, but their interface is not in Hebrew. For translation, DeepL supports Hebrew. Either way, proofread before you send.
Is ChatGPT really free?
Yes. The free plan includes "unlimited" chat subject to fair-use guardrails, web search, and images and files at limited levels, up to 3 file uploads a day. In some countries it shows ads.
Is it safe to upload work documents to free AI?
Only what is not confidential. On personal plans, chats can be used for training unless you turn it off in settings. For sensitive material use a business plan or local AI like LM Studio or Ollama.
Can I trust free AI for engineering calculations?
Not without checking. AI can get numbers, units and standard citations wrong. Every calculation, code requirement or structural work must be checked by a qualified engineer against the official document.
